Welcome, friends, to Truth.Love.Parent., a podcast from Truth.Love.Family.
I am your host, AMBrewster, and we have concluded yet another season on TLP. So, today we’re going to look forward to Season 31. But I’m also going to give you a much needed update on the Brewster family. So, let’s begin. Topic
I took a break from the podcast in April of 2023 in order to finish the first draft of my book, Quit: How to Stop Family Strife for Good and to prepare for a number of speaking opportunities in Indiana and Michigan.
I jumped back into the podcast in February of 2024 and stayed consistent with it through the end of September. In addition, we were able to put the finishing touches on Quit as I prepared for the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors Annual Conference in Forth Worth, Texas. But, as many of you know, last October our family experienced Hurricane Helene. Our house was at the epicenter of three bodies of water. As the stream behind our house, the Davidson River, and the French Broad all overflowed their banks, our home became an island in the middle of a brand new lake. My wife and daughter were evacuated from the house on Friday night. At that time, nearly 5 feet of water had surrounded us, and the police brought their boat right up to the front of the house to take them to a nearby shelter. I stayed behind with my father who was unevacuate-able, my mother, and our pets. By God’s grace, the water was mere inches from entering the home when on Friday night at 10:00, the water level finally stopped increasing and—shortly thereafter—began receding. But the damage had already been done. Both of our cars were flooded, but one was unrecoverable. The RV that was parked on the side of our house that functioned as my son’s bedroom was flooded, and we lost our HVAC and the majority of our belongings that were stored in our basement. Though I had been preparing the Parenting Your Kids to Adulthood Series, I ended up not doing any podcasting for the rest of the year. Times were tough back then. There were massive hurdles that needed to be jumped, financial needs like we had never encountered before, and significant spiritual struggles as we worked through what God was doing. Well, I started podcasting again in January of 2025 primarily because I realized that if I waited until life was “back to normal,” I might not be podcasting for quite some time. Unfortunately, due to the almost year-long break from podcasting in 2023, the economy, and the hurricane, Truth.Love.Family. started bleeding money. Some of our longtime donors needed to stop giving because of their own financial struggles, new bills arose, and the Brewster family found ourselves in significant distress. Now, many of you know that this ministry has always been a labor of love. My salary is $500 a month, and though I do have a couple side jobs, I work this ministry full time with the hopes that it will one day grow into a ministry that will equip parents to glorify God in their families and provide for my family. But we are at a more significant turning point than we have ever been before. I have a few opportunities to speak and try to sell our books and digital resources, but if we don’t get more donors, 2025 will close and we will likely be out of money. Were that to happen, I believe the most Christ-honoring thing I could do would be to close our doors. Now, I don’t want that to happen, and I don’t believe you do either. So, will you please consider becoming a monthly donor? You can easily head to TruthLoveParent.com/donate to see how easy it is to give a monthly, tax-deductible gift. There are various ways to do it, and if you’ve ever thought that whatever you can afford to give isn’t enough to help . . . please allow me to disillusion you about that faulty thinking. We have donors who give over $100 a month, but we also have donors who give $5 a month, and it’s all necessary for doing the job we’re doing. Right now we receive less than $1,500 a month in total giving. Will you join those donors? If only 50 people gave $100 a month, or if 100 people gave $50 a month, that would provide the ministry $60,000 a year. We would need much more than that to provide me a living wage, but it would be such an amazing jump from anything we’ve received over the past 5 years. Now, if you’ve heard many of these episodes, you know that I absolutely hate talking about money. It’s easy for me to ask you to donate to other causes—but my own? That’s much harder. But it’s where we are, and it’s what we need. So, please visit TruthLoveParent.com/donate to start giving today . . . and buy a copy of Quit while you’re at it. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share this burden with you, but now we transition to a sneak peek of what’s coming in Season 31. This past season we looked at two different topics. We discussed Parenting Your Kids to Adulthood as well as Parenting Sorrowing Children. If you have not heard those episodes, or the rest of our nearly 600 episodes, please listen to them and share them with your friends. But this season we’re going to tackle one main issue. This series is going to be called, “How Your Children Respond to Sin.” Here’s the thing, we live in a broken and sinful world. We are sinners. Our kids are sinners. In fact, sin is our families greatest and most powerful enemy. It’s what blinds our kids to their need for spiritual life, it’s what keeps us from being as mature as we should be, it’s the barrier to us and our kids making a bigger impact on the world. I just spoke at the Great Homeschool Convention, and I reminded the attendees that the most important part of homeschooling isn’t the education, it’s the heart-tending. Our kids will definitely learn and achieve their highest potential when we parent them in Christ. That means that their spiritual life and maturity really needs to be our highest goal, and that means that sin is our greatest enemy. Now, you might be asking, “Well, what about Satan?” If you haven’t heard our Spiritual Warfare in Your Home Series, I highly recommend it. That series helps you understand the three greatest enemies our families face, but it also proves the fact that our own sin natures are our greatest enemies. By the way, I do have two resources for you in the description of today’s episode. Be sure to check it out. And this is why we’re going to take the whole of Season 31 to discuss how your kids respond to the sin in their lives. We’re going to talk about the nature of sin and temptation. We can’t help our kids fight an enemy we don’t understand. But then we’re also going to look at a number of responses people have to sin. We’re going to talk about how sin creates knowledge, shame, callousness, delusion, fear, anger, and blame. And then we’re going to end with two important ways we pray our children will respond to the sin in their lives. Conclusion
I’m really looking forward to this study because I pray that God will use it—first and foremost—in my own life. But I also pray that the Lord will use me to help my family understand and fight this enemy in their lives.
Please share this episode with your friends so they too can get to know what Truth.Love.Parent. is and join us as we all learn how to worship God better with our parenting. Also, pease know that we would be honored to help your family through its current trials, testing, and temptations. You can email us at [email protected] or leave a voicemail at (828) 423-0894 in order for you and me to open God’s Word together to apply it directly to yours and your family’s greatest needs. So, I’ll see you next time as we begin our discussion about “How Your Children Respond to Sin.”
